Proposed Schedule Change to Kingdom Calendar
Good evening Calontir.
Word may have come that We are considering changing the schedule for Calontir’s Royal Events. These are not baseless rumour, but true facts. Why make such a change, you ask?
The primary reason for this calendar change is to give Heirs the opportunity to attend foreign wars, specifically Gulf Wars and Pennsic. The secondary reason is equity of Royal Events for Stile and Equestrian. Royal Events allow the Kingdom to showcase these activities without conflict – just as King’s Companie of Archers does for Archery, and as Our Arts and Sciences are represented with Queen’s Prize Tournament, and with Kingdom Arts and Sciences.
We have consulted with Our Reeve and Our Kingdom Seneschal, discussed the reasons for updating the calendar, and reviewed the proposed schedule. This schedule would fulfill both reasons, and would increase the number of Royal Events from 9 (current Kingdom Law) to 11.
We’ve shared the proposed schedule, as it would look for calendar year 2023, so that we can discuss the overall merits and flaws of the proposed schedule. We welcome comments on this proposed schedule. Please feel free to comment within either the proposal document for commentary, or make a fresh tab to play with visualizing your suggestions within the 2023 calendar for commentary
We realize that many people will leap to the question of “How will we make the change to this new schedule, before 2023?” – that is a secondary discussion. We would like to focus the conversation on the merits and flaws of the proposed schedule, year over year, having the example of 2023 as the talking point. We will return to the topic of getting to a new schedule, when the merits and flaws have been discussed sufficientlyThank you very much for your thoughtful conversation
Queen Magdalena and King Hirsch
Peace. Love. Calontir.

Greetings to the Good People of Calontir
It is too soon for great optimism, but we are cautiously optimistic. Two weeks ago, in consultation with Our Witan and event stewards, we postponed events in the first half of February. We appreciate all of the effort and input that went into that difficult decision, as well as the work preparing for these events.
We are pleased to announce that Winter War Maneuvers is going forward as scheduled, with N95/KN95/KF94 masks required for all indoor activities, including fighting, both armored and steel. If you cannot fit an N95/KN95/KF94 mask in your helmet/mask while fighting, you may wear a multilayer non-woven surgical mask while fighting, but you are expected to wear an N95/KN95/KF94 mask while not fighting. We recognize that the masking requirement makes staying hydrated difficult, and we encourage people to bring a straw, take a break outdoors to drink some water.
In January We required N95/KN95 masks at Coronation, and we capped attendance. We are not planning to cap attendance at this time.
It is imperative that if you are feeling unwell, you should stay home from an event. If someone in your household is currently positive, you must stay home, even if you are asymptomatic. As much as we enjoy seeing one another in person again, we would rather have smaller events than to have no events at all. The health of the kingdom is Our priority.
We remain honored to be
King Hirsch and Queen MagdalenaPeace. Love. Calontir.

Postponement of Clothier’s Seminar and Queen’s Prize Tournament…
Given the recent, precipitous, increase in the spread of COVID-19 within the borders of Calontir, Their Majesties, the Great Officers of the kingdom, and Event Stewards for all upcoming events have been in discussions about whether or not to hold them. It is not our intention to cancel any events outright if we can avoid doing so. The decision has been made to postpone Clothier's Seminar and Queen's Prize Tournament to a later date. The Event Stewards will work with the Kingdom Reeve to identify new dates for these events, and communicate that out to the populace once they are identified. No decision has yet been reached regarding the remaining events in February, but we will be meeting again in a couple of weeks when more data is available to make that decision. If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected]In Service,Galen

Google Meet access for Virtual Meetings
Greetings Calontir,Once again, many of our groups are moving meetings and activities online due to the current omicron surge, so I would like to take this opportunity to remind all of our kingdom officers – and many local group officers – that the Google accounts that are provided by the kingdom include a wide range of online collaborative resources that are all part of Google Workspace (formerly G-Suite).
Among these resources is a premium level of access to Google Meet, which allows all of those officers to host meetings for up to 100 people at a time for 24 hours (the free version has a 1 hour limit), so if you need to figure out a way to hold your shire meeting, guild chat, or A&S gathering online, please be aware that this resource is readily available to you.
Also, if for some reason you find that you need access to a different video conferencing platform – for example Zoom – please do not hesitate to send me an email at [email protected], and we can try to find a way to get you access to that system.
Sincerely,
Gawin KapplerCalontir Webminister

Coronation Announcement
Calontir,
We have been in consultation with Their Highnesses, Hirsch and Magda, and Our Seneschal, Galen, to discuss additional ways to reduce risk at the upcoming Coronation and wanted to share the conclusions to those conversations with all of you.To help mitigate the risks of the Pandemic, we have jointly agreed to put the following measures in place:- Pre-registration will now be required and attendance will be capped at 150. Pre-registration closes the evening of Wed 1/5.
- Everyone who must mask will be required to wear an N95 or KN95 mask. These are now quite easy to get, both in stores and online, so shouldn't be a hardship for anyone.
- We will be streamlining both morning and afternoon courts and there will be only a 90 minute lunch break between them. The event will end after the afternoon court, with no additional meetings or classes.
We recognize that this is late notice for changes, but hope that you can help us all to remain flexible with the sometimes rapidly changing conditions in the world today. We very much want to see friendly faces at this exciting time and want to ensure that We can keep seeing those friendly faces long into the future.Lucian and Tamar
New Year, New Reign
Calontir,
As we all begin to transition into a new year, we also prepare for a transition of leadership. We are only days away from Our stepping down and the Coronation of Hirsch and Magdalena and We could not be happier with the hands We will be leaving the Kingdom in.
While Coronation is an event we would hope to be able to see everyone at, we are also looking at the realities of a surge in Covid infection numbers with the prevalence of the Omicron variant. With that in mind, We urge you all to consider closely any plans you may have for New Year’s Eve festivities, monitor your health, and please stay home from the event if you have any potential symptoms. No SCA responsibilities are more important than the health and safety of our friends and family.
Wishing you all a joyous and safe New Year,
Lucian and Tamar
