Ave Calontirii

Some brief announcements that may not yet have come to your ears.  Please feel free to forward far and wide.
Our Crown Tournament will be held on October 9th in the Barony of Mag Mor.
Unfortunately, this will conflict with this year’s Fall Gulf Wars XXX, so We will not be calling a muster for the war. 
With that being said, We are accepting Letters of Intent to fight in Our Crown Tournament at this time.
If you wish to compete, please submit your letter to Us and the Kingdom Seneschal no later than September 25th. This due date is the same weekend as Masters of the Duel.
In accordance with Section VI of Kingdom Law, Any resident combatant and consort may submit a Letter of Intent. 
The letter must include proof of residence within Calontir and active paid membership with the SCA
We would also ask you for a few scentence on why you wish to be the Crown Prince and Princess of Calontir.

We have decided to give an extension for letters of intent for the Kingdom Reeve position to August 20th. As we begin to return to some semblance of normalcy We towards our duty to secure heirs who would see to our Kingdom’s future. Please weigh this responsibility carefully. Serving the kingdom in this position can be both great work and great joy. We call all members of our populace wishing to do so to consider submitting a letter of intent to fight for this honor. We hope to have a large list — it can only benefit the Kingdom to have it so. To minimize disruption to the calendar and ensure that our heirs have sufficient time to prepare for their own reign, we will be maintaining the dates for both Crown (10/9/21) and Coronation (1/8/22) as they currently stand. By Calon Law, Article IV, Letters of intent proving you meet the laws requirements as a prospective combatant or consort, described therein, are due no later than Saturday, September 25th 2021.By Crown Edict, Those letters of intent will contain a brief statement of why you wish to compete for the throne. Lastly, this tournament will be fought in the best two of three format every round.

The below are some touch points and action items I would like you all to take note of and do as we begin fighting again.

1. Masks MUST be worn at ALL TIMES. This is from Society. We have NO Wiggle Room on this. It may be an inconvenience, but if the fighter can’t get a mask on inside the helm, then they can’t fight. Masks over the grill, or a close face helmet are NOT sufficient. I will be working on some “work throughs” for masks in helmets. I have a number of different helmets and few different styles of “masks”. I plan on trying different combinations and then push out some examples of what works and what doesn’t. If you have a set up that works well, please let me know. The Mask requirement is going to be an inconvenience and we are bound to have some push back and some that will try to skirt the rules. Please do your best to bring those people into the fold and play by the Society Determined restrictions. TRMs have made it clear that the masks mandate are an all or nothing restriction.
   
2. All fighting must be Outside, and social distancing should be maintained by all those that are not actively fighting.
   
3. CALIBRATION: It would be a good idea to work with your local fighters in the beginning to recalibrate their fights. Calibration testing on each fighter would be a decent idea. We are all rusty and we want to try and mitigate any over compensating for power.
   
4. PLEASE go back and re-read the Calontir Handbooks and Society Fighters Handbooks for comprehension. The Society handbook has been updated with some new information. We NEED to be up on this new info. so that we can field any questions that will soon come up. NOTE: Steel Marshals, there is a new Society Rapier Handbook. So, PLEASE go read it all so that you are up on the new rule changes.
   
5. Inspect ALL Armor and Weapons Thoroughly. Most all of our weapons and gear have spent over a year in storage and has not been maintained. Help our fighters be safe and in the beginning of this new fighting time, take extra care when inspecting.
   
6. Try and maintain social distance when you can. Examples: Have people pile their weapons up away from the group and you go over and inspect them. Have people place their helmets away from the group and you go and inspect those. When inspecting, if a visual inspection will work, please do so from 6ft. away. When needing to do the helmet nose push test, use a sword or spear to push on the helmet if you can.
   
7. Be VERY mindful of people while they fight. Actively watch for people’s physical condition and ask questions of fighters if they look like they are not doing well.
   
8. Fighter Cards: The Moratorium on fighter cards will go for 6 months after May 15th. So, on November 15th, any fighter that has not fought twice (2 events, or 2 practices, or 1 of each) will be put on In-active status. Drills/slow work doesn’t count toward this. The fighter needs to be in kit and actively fighting so that they are safe. I am asking all the local Knight’s Marshals to watch their local fighters and maintain a list. At the 6 month mark I will be asking for those lists to help determine the active/in-active statuses.
   
9. NEW Authorizations: At this time I am placing short term prohibition on new authorizations. I would like us to get back into the “swing” of fighting again before we immediately jump into authorizing with new systems. NOTE: IF you have a special case then please contact me and we can discuss a work around.
   
10. WARRANTS: All Warranted marshals should be been turning in reports quarterly, so all our warranted marshals should still be warranted. IF you have not been turning in reports, your warrant has lapsed and you will need to start reporting again to get it back.

Thank you all for your previous work and your upcoming work through this transition time. If you have any issues with fighters or difficulties please contact me so that we find a solution. This is a big step for our Kingdom and we need to show everyone that we can be safe and still have fun.

Her Majesty and I want to thank you again for your stoic patience, and the steadfast care you have shown one another. Because of that patience and care we can now deliver some wonderful news.We are happy to announce that as of April 15th 2021 we may begin local meetings, once again, under the same conditions as set forth last fall. -Meeting must be held outdoors.-Participants must wear masks and keep a reasonable distance at all times.-All Federal, State, and local health guidelines must be followed. At this time, meetings will still not allow armed combat of any kind. However, all other meeting activities may resume if your local leaders feel it is wise to do so and they can meet requirements.If all goes well, with your continued help, adherence to the guidelines, and if infection rates continue to drop and vaccination rates continue to increase, we hope to make an announcement allowing armed combat at local meetings to begin in mid May. And saving the very best for last, through the continued diligence of our Lilies Committee and Steward Staff we are thrilled to announce that Lilies 2021 is being planned for September 15-19.To make all of this possible, it is imperative that we all continue to follow masking and distancing guidelines and all who physically can get vaccinated do so. There is still a lot of uncertainty in front of us all. Flexibility, patience and vigilance will still be the order of the day. If we continue with care and err on the side of caution, there is light at this end of the tunnel. We are thrilled that we will soon get to see you, if not your smiles, again soon.

As Calontir moves into the colder months, we would usually be looking ahead to meetings and fighter practices in our indoor sites. Unfortunately, We see no significant downturn in the numbers of illnesses, and more evidence of how the virus can be spread inside through both closer proximity and heating and cooling systems. In light of all the current information, and in consultation with the local leadership and officers, We will not be able to allow the transition to gathering indoors for SCA meetings. We know missing this contact in a season that many of us find difficult is disappointing, but the health and safety of the populace must be Our priority. We encourage everyone to stay connected through digital meetings, keep hitting that pell and working on your physical fitness at home, and attend and teach online classes to keep furthering our learning. Together we’ll help each other through this, just like we always do, and come out the other side stronger.

One of my main goals for my term as Kingdom webminister is to simplify our online presence so we can spend more time focusing on the middle ages, not the information age. As part of this, I am hoping to reduce some of the volunteer burden of maintaining local group webpages and to allow local groups who do not have a webminister and/or cannot fill the position of webminister to have a webpage managed by the kingdom office. To accomplish this, I am seeking 2 things:

1) If you are the seneschal of a local group who would like a website built and maintained for your group

or

2) If you are interested in volunteering as a deputy to the kingdom webminister’s office in order to help build and maintain webpages for local groups
